The Specifications of the Checker Brick

The modern blast furnaces adopt regenerative hot stoves as the heating device. The hot stove is a large blowing and heating facility for the blast furnace constructed with a group of checker bricks.

The checker brick is a carrier of high temperature heat. It is heated by the high temperature fuel gas generated by the burning of coal gas. Then the cold air is heated by the hot checker bricks. The alternative burning and blowing in the hot stove ensures the blast furnace gets continuous high temperature air.

In order to improve the heat transfer efficiency of the hot stove, the checker bricks used in the hot stove should have good thermal properties. In the design, increasing the heating area of the checker brick is an effective way to improve the heat transferring of checker brick.

The heating area of traditional checker bricks is as followings:

1) 7-hole checker brick: the diameter of the hole is 30mm and the regenerative area is 38.1m2/m3;

2) 7-hole checker brick: the diameter of the hole is 30mm and the regenerative area is 47.08m2/m3;

3) 19-hole checker brick: the diameter of the hole is 25mm and the regenerative area is 48.6m2/m3;

4) 31-hole checker brick: the diameter of the hole is 20mm and the regenerative area is 58.1m2/m3;

5) 37-hole checker brick: the diameter of the hole is 20mm and the regenerative area is 68.7m2/m3.

When the basic conditions are the same, using 30mm 19-hole checker brick instead of 43mm 7-hole checker brick in the large blast furnace can improve the air temperature by 38℃. Using 25mm 31-hole checker brick instead of 19-hole checker brick can improve the air temperature by 19℃.
