3 Damage Forms of High Alumina Bricks

High alumina bricks are widely used in high temperature industries, such as steel industry, cement industry, ceramic industry, glass industry, electric power industry, nonferrous metal industry, chemical industry, petroleum industry and environmental protection industry. During use, it suffers from high temperature, thermal shock, atmosphere change, dust, vapor and corrosion by liquid and slags. So, they are used under harsh conditions and the damage forms are complex. 

It may react with treatment agents and slags. Thermal stress may cause cracks. These will make the bricks shedding and damaged. There are 3 damage forms of high alumina bricks.

 

(1) Thermal and mechanical stripping

It is the irregular crack of refractory linings caused by thermal stress and mechanical stress. It can result in the fast damage of high alumina linings. 

(2) Structure shedding

It is the structure change caused by slag penetration and temperature fluctuation on the hot face. This constitutes a unique transformation structural layer. There are cracks parallel with the hot face, on the interface between the original layer and the transformation layer. This makes the linings shedding and damaged. 

(3) Melt stream

High alumina linings react with the molten steel, molten iron and slags, which generates materials with a lower melting point. The melt stream of these materials causes wear erosion of the linings. 

　　

In addition, shrinkage of the lining can also cause cracks and the shrinkage of the high alumina bricks during transportation can cause the expansion of cracks. These are the main factors resulting in the rapid damage of high alumina linings.
