Shapes And Sizes Of Refractory Materials

Since refractory materials are of various types and used in many different applications, there are many different classification methods. According to shapes and sizes, they can be classified into standard type, normal type, specific type and special type. 

Standard type

Typically, straight brick with external dimensions of 230mm × 114mm × 65mm is called standard type refractory brick. 

 

Normal type

The size ratio (radio of the minimum size and the maximum size) of normal type brick is no more than 1:4. 2-8kg fireclay brick, 2-6kg silica brick, 2-10kg high alumina brick, 4-10kg magnesia brick and magnesia alumina brick without concave corners, perforations or grooves all belong to normal type. 

 

Specific type

1)Fireclay and high alumina specific type brick

2)2-15Kg fireclay brick and 2-18kg high alumina brick with a size ratio no more than 1:6, no more than two concave corners including arc-shaped concave corners or a 50°-75° acute angle, or no more than 4 grooves, are called fireclay and high alumina specific type bricks. 

 

3)Silica specific type brick

4)2-12Kg silica bricks with a size ratio no more than 1:5, no more than 1 concave corner, one 50°-75° acute angle or no more than two grooves, all belong to silica specific type brick. 

 

5)Magnesia or magnesia alumina specific type bricks

All magnesia magnesia alumina bricks that do not belong to normal types are magnesia or magnesia alumina specific type bricks. 

 

Special type

1)Fireclay and high alumina special type brick

Fireclay and high alumina special type bricks have a size radio with 1:8. They have no more than four concave corners (including arc-shaped concave corners), a 50°-30° acute angle, no more than 8 grooves and no more than one aperture hole. Fireclay special type bricks are weighed 1.5-30kg and high alumina bricks 1.5-35kg. 

 

2)Silica special type brick

Silica special type brick is generally 1. 5-25kg. It has a size radio within 1:6. It has no more than four concave corners (including arc-shaped concave corners), a 50°-30° acute angle or four grooves, or no more than one aperture hole. 

 

3)Magnesia specific type brick

Magnesia specific type brick is 3～35kg, with a size radio no more than 1:8, no more than four concave corners (including arc-shaped concave corners), a 50°-30° acute angle, no more than 3 aperture holes, or no more than four grooves.
